A failing journey and the fix
The American Express partner benefits programme, is one of the most valuable features of premium card membership and quantitative user research showed the existing enrolment journey was failing. Confusion, abandonment, and poor uptake meant card members were missing benefits they were entitled to, partner sales were soft, and the strategic case for the partnership programme was weakening. The redesign needed to do more than clarify the interface. It needed to reconnect card members with the value proposition they had bought into.

Fourfold uplift in monthly enrolments
The design applies the endowed progress effect, the behavioural principle that people are more motivated to complete a task when they feel they've already started it. The new summary view greets the card member with a progress ring already partially filled, with one benefit pre-enrolled and others surfaced as small, completable next steps. The work followed heuristic analysis of the existing flow, stakeholder workshops, ideation, sketches, prototypes, internal testing, and validation in a UK usability lab. Monthly enrolments saw more than a four-fold uplift within a month of launch, with recognition from the responsible SVP. The design remains in production.
